APPLE CRUMBLE
Flavour notes: RED APPLE, CRANBERRY, and MILK CHOCOLATE
Apple Crumble is a balanced, well-rounded Guatemalan coffee with soft sweetness and depth.
Produced at Finca El Zapote in Acatenango, a volcanic soil region widely recognised for its high-quality Guatemalan coffees, it reflects both its origin and the care taken at farm level. Shaped by volcanic soils and thoughtful processing, the cup leans into comforting flavours, offering gentle fruit notes, rounded sweetness, and a reassuring, composed profile.
Thanks to Julio’s focus on refining processing and drying techniques, the cup is clean and consistent, free from distracting ferment or roughness. Whether brewed as espresso or filter, it delivers a calm, confident profile that reflects both its place of origin and the producer’s careful approach.
We chose this coffee for its balance, consistency, and the care behind its production. It’s a dependable expression of Acatenango that showcases volcanic soils and thoughtful processing without chasing extremes.
Apple crumble offers a steady, well-structured cup that performs reliably across brew styles.
Producer
Finca El Zapote is located in the heart of Acatenango, Guatemala, in the town of Socorro, a region defined by volcanic soils and ideal coffee-growing conditions. The farm is owned and managed by Julio Meléndez Perez, who has dedicated his entire life to coffee farming. Julio is known for his clear goals, precision, and long-term commitment to producing quality coffee in a way that respects both people and the environment.
Over the years, Julio has continually invested in improving his farm’s infrastructure and sustainability. Three years ago, he renovated his wet mill to significantly reduce water consumption, improving both efficiency and environmental impact. More recently, he has focused on planting new varieties such as H1 hybrids, increasing both quality and production volume, while also experimenting with drying techniques through a custom-built, three-level raised bed system.
Finca El Zapote produces a range of coffees using washed, honey, natural, and experimental processes, reflecting Julio’s curiosity and willingness to refine his approach year after year. In 2022, he began experimenting with anaerobic processing, further expanding the farm’s coffee offering. The farm holds Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, and 4C certifications, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible production.
Coffees from El Zapote are a clear reflection of Julio’s character: focused, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in a lifetime of work in coffee.
